newSLATE 1.1 now offers direct user-to-user file exchange. With newSLATE 1.1, students and teachers can collaborate in creating, extending and reviewing study materials they have developed in newSLATE. Students can be encouraged to take an increasingly active and responsible role in their own learning, while teachers spend less time on repetetive tasks.
A full-capability file exchange feature is available with a Standard or Access subscription. Standard and Access account holders can now send files to any newSLATE account holder (provided they know the recipient's newSLATE username). Any newSLATE account holder (even Free accounts!) can receive files.
newSLATE 1.1 is a significant step in taking advantage of the newSLATE web-based software architecture to support learning. The ability to exchange newSLATE study materials across the web integrates the individual and community aspects of studying. Any newSLATE user can create study materials based on their current learning objectives, and exchange those materials with peers to be reviewed, improved and reused. Individuals can then practice those materials using newSLATE quizzes.
newSLATE 1.1 stands apart from other educational tools with its unique, student-centered focus on filling the gap between presentation of subject matter and testing. Today's learning management systems provide a variety of alternatives for delivering content and for administering assessments. But the processes by which students acquire knowledge or skills are not well supported. newSLATE 1.1 provides every student with the opportunity to engage in an active encounter with their own learning materials, and to benefit from learning materials created by others.
