You need newSLATE if you are a student or a teacher and you:
As a student, it empowers you to study interactively, by yourself or with others. As a teacher, it vastly simplifies your work in creating interactive, web-based quizzes for students to use for practice. Moreover, you can use your newSLATE account wherever you have web access. And since newSLATE is a single tool for both teachers and students, there is no separate learning curve for a "teacher's tool."
newSLATE was designed for both ease and flexibility of use. The only skills you need are basic text editing and using a mouse. Like a word processor, newSLATE can be used across the curriculum, and through the school years and beyond, because the subject matter and the level of the content are up to you.
The newSLATE access areas and file exchange features simplify the distribution of newSLATE files. Teachers can use access areas to provide learning materials for their students directly through newSLATE. Students can use the materials in their teacher's access area from home, school, or wherever they have an Internet connection and a modern web browser. With the file exchange feature, students can study together by sharing newSLATE files they have created, or students and teachers can individually send and receive newSLATE files to and from each other.
And by adding just a few lines of HTML to a class web page, teachers can make newSLATE directly available to their students, without having them ever visit the newSLATE web site.
Future releases of newSLATE will also provide tools so that students and teachers can send quiz results to each other individually through newSLATE.
